Finally after many meetings and a lot of hard work by the RoH Organising team to overcome red tape and obstacles put in our way, we are very pleased to be able to announce the final ride details and what to expect on the day.
1. Arrival at your chosen starting point (from 8.00 am).
Riders will start to gather at their chosen starting points. Here all riders must go through registration verification. To complete Registration Verification you must bring a printed copy of either your PayPal receipt or payment confirmation email sent from the Ride of Honour website. Your details will be verified and upon successful verification you will be issued a tag to place on your bike.
It is essential that this tag is placed on the LEFT HAND WING MIRROR as without this tag you will not be permitted entry into Marne Barracks. Security is very tight and these Tags need to be visible to the soldiers manning the gates at the Barracks. These guys carry guns so its best not to upset them!
The latest you will be able to arrive to successfully complete Registration Verification will be 10.00 am. Anyone arriving after this time will not be allowed to complete Registration Verification and as such will not be issued a Bike Tag to allow them entry to Marne Barracks. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARRIVE EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.
2. Setting off from starting points.
Currently we are unable to provide exact departing times as we are in final discussions with the Highways Agency and will need to stagger the departing times in order to avoid creating too much traffic congestion at Catterick. Once we have this information it will be posted here!
Each ride will be fully Marshalled. The designated Marshals will be wearing High Vis and they will guide you out of the starting points and point all riders in the right direction at any junctions. Please remember that all appropriate Road Sings, Speed Limits and Laws of the Road/Highway Code apply at all times. We DO NOT have priority over any other road users.
This is a Ride of Honour to show our respect to our armed forces. It is not a race so all riders are asked to stay in line and not to overtake other riders. Anyone seen doing so by the Marshals, will be warned and may be asked to leave the ride.
3. Arriving at Catterick.
All rides will initially enter a temporary holding car park opposite Catterick Race Course. Here your bike will be checked for the appropriate Bike Tag being displayed in the correct position (Left Hand Wing Mirror) and the Marshals will release small groups of bikes from the Car Park, down to the gates of the Barracks. Here you and your bike may have to go through security checks and searches. This may include searching any luggage bags, panniers, top boxes on your bike and could include a body check and pat down by the Army Personnel. Please be patient as these take place. You are entering a high security military area and these checks are essential.
Once through the check point you will ride to the runway and park your bike up in one of the designated parking areas.
4. At Marne Barracks
Once inside the Barracks the MOD have kindly put on food and refreshments which you will be able to purchase from the catering vans. All monies raised from the sale of food/refreshments will be going towards a memorial fund honouring the brave soldiers the regiment lost in their last tour.
There will also be toilets and other attractions to see, including some of the latest vehicles and hardware that will be deployed into theatre in Afghanistan later this year.
The perimeter of the Barracks will be manned by the Army at all times and any suspicious activity witnessed must be reported.
5. Leaving Marne Barracks
Once you are ready to leave the Barracks you will make your way from the runway/parking area back towards the security checkpoint on the gate, from there you will be able to re join the A1 North and South and make your way home. There is no official finishing time or ride from Marne Barracks, so you are free to leave at any time you wish. However we must clear the Barracks by 5.00 pm. All we ask is that you leave in small groups so as not to create any problems joining the high speed road network as the slip roads onto the A1 at Marne Barracks are very short.
More details will be released soon so please check back to keep up to date.
